The Origin of Kobe Wagyu

"Heritage, Quality, Trust"

Kobe Wagyu is a testament to the heritage and dedication of the Iida Farm, located in the heart of Kobe. For over 100 years, Iida Farm has been a pioneer in breeding and raising Wagyu cattle, with 50% of our livestock being Kobe Wagyu. Our long-standing tradition and commitment to excellence ensure that every piece of Kobe Wagyu from our farm embodies the rich history and superior quality of this prestigious breed.

Commitment to Genuine Wagyu

At Iida Farm, we are devoted to providing 100% genuine Kobe Wagyu, giving our customers peace of mind and safety. Unlike many other farms, we manage the entire process from breeding to fattening in-house. This comprehensive approach, combined with our extensive health database, reduces the risk of disease and allows for swift responses, resulting in a lower mortality rate. Our cattle are also fed straw harvested from our own pasture, ensuring that their feed is domestically produced and safe.

Differences Between Kobe Wagyu and Banshu Wagyu

  1. Origin and Location: Kobe Wagyu is specifically from the Kobe region, while Banshu Wagyu originates from the broader Banshu region within Hyogo Prefecture.
  2. Marbling and Flavor: Kobe Wagyu is renowned for its exceptional marbling, tenderness, and rich flavor, which sets it apart as a luxury beef. Banshu Wagyu, while also high-quality, typically has slightly less marbling and a different flavor profile.
  3. Production Practices: At Iida Farm, Kobe Wagyu benefits from our unique in-house management from breeding to fattening, whereas Banshu Wagyu may involve more diverse farming practices.
  4. Market Perception: Kobe Wagyu is often perceived as the pinnacle of Wagyu beef due to its stringent standards and exclusive heritage, making it more prestigious compared to Banshu Wagyu.

Differences Between Kobe Wagyu and Kokusangyu

  1. Genetics and Breed: Kobe Wagyu is a specific type of Wagyu with strict pedigree requirements, whereas Kokusangyu refers to Japanese domestic beef cattle, which can include various breeds and crossbreeds.
  2. Quality and Standards: Kobe Wagyu adheres to rigorous quality standards, including marbling, tenderness, and flavor. Kokusangyu, while also high-quality, can vary more widely in these characteristics.
  3. Production Scale: Kobe Wagyu production is often smaller and more controlled, focusing on maintaining the highest quality. Kokusangyu can be produced on a larger scale, with variations in quality and production methods.
  4. Consumer Recognition: Kobe Wagyu is globally recognized and sought after for its unparalleled quality, whereas Kokusangyu, though respected, does not carry the same level of international prestige.
